About the Triple Rush Show

Triple Rush gives you an insider's look at the chaotic workings of 3 different NYC courier companies as they battle for survival in this intensely competitive industry. We'll witness the bike messengers' hair-raising dashes through busy Manhattan streets — speeding between cars, racing through red lights and doing battle with taxicabs -- all to earn a few dollars and support their lives in the fast lane. We'll also meet the dispatchers, who balance the needs of messengers who want non-stop, lucrative runs, customers who want excellent service and owners who want kick-ass couriers who don't make mistakes.

Meet the Breakaway Courier Triple Rush Bike Messengers

Kotch
Owner of Breakaway Courier

Rob Kotch, Breakaway's larger-than-life owner, describes himself as "blunt to the point of breaking all social decorum." He bikes nearly 50 miles round-trip to work every day from his home in New Jersey. The worst part of his journey is the brief moment when he has to actually set foot on the streets of New York City. In Rob’s lifetime, he has hitchhiked around the country, managed a rock 'n' roll band, and when he retires, plans to write romance novels. He has been married for 13 years and has two daughters. He originally came to New York in 1977 with a definitive plan to become a millionaire within a year, and then run for Senate. But he was rebellious, had an immature iconoclastic streak, and couldn’t find any other job with his economics degree. He's been a messenger ever since.

Andy
General manager for Breakaway Courier

General manager Andy Young has been in the messenger business for 25 years and has experienced New York in a way most people never do. He’s "the hammer" at Breakaway, handling all new employee training and branding them with the corporate philosophy – "screwing up isn't tolerated and if you put the company or yourself at risk, you're going to be fired." He's an ever-present color commentator who offers a clear perspective and context for the unique world we are exploring.

Jenessa
Bike messenger for Breakaway Courier

Though she may appear rough around the edges, Jenessa is probably one of the smartest women you'll ever meet. She grew up on an organic vegetable farm in Minnesota and was a star athlete in high school. At 16, she received a scholarship to study abroad and lived with a family in Ecuador. She followed that up with a double major in Spanish and International Relations and graduated summa cum laude. While her ultimate goal is to work for Doctors Without Borders as a midwife, she's not ready to give up her fast, carefree lifestyle just yet.

Scott
Bike messenger for Breakaway Courier

An out-of-work architect who has fallen on hard times, Scott took a job at Breakaway without any bike messenger experience to speak of. He struggles at first, but after working for weeks, battling the elements, the city and the rigors of the job, he eventually learns the ropes.

"Wild Bill" Dappio
Dispatcher for Breakaway Courier

Veteran dispatcher "Wild Bill" Dappio has earned his moniker. He is a "dispatching savant" who was struck by lightning as a child. He has the ability to visualize all patterns of runs on the screen and can route a messenger faster than any dispatcher Breakaway has ever employed.

Andrew
Dispatcher for Breakaway Courier

Andrew is a pure hearted 30-year-old rookie dispatcher trying to make the transition from man-child to adult. While navigating the streets of New York, he endures constant hazing from his co-workers whose teasing about his ink covered skin and outrageous sartorial flair straddle a fine line between affection and derision.
